Redmayne 1860 Presented with The King's Award for Enterprise
His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Cumbria, Alexander Scott, has presented Carlisle-based bespoke tailoring company Redmayne 1860 with The King's Award for Enterprise in recognition of its outstanding achievement in International Trade.
The presentation marks a significant milestone for the historic Cumbrian business, which traces its origins back to 1860 and has built a reputation for exceptional British tailoring, serving clients across the UK and around the world. Redmayne 1860 remains committed to traditional craftsmanship, with all bespoke garments continuing to be cut and made in-house in Carlisle.
The King's Awards for Enterprise are the United Kingdom's highest official honours for business, recognising outstanding achievement in areas including International Trade, Innovation, Sustainable Development and Promoting Opportunity. Recipients are recognised as leaders in their field, demonstrating excellence, ambition and a commitment to growth.
Redmayne 1860 received the award in the International Trade category, reflecting the company's continued expansion into overseas markets and its success in showcasing Cumbrian craftsmanship on a global stage. The business has developed a strong international customer base while maintaining its roots in the county and investing in the skills of future generations through apprenticeships and traditional tailoring techniques.
Speaking following the announcement of the award earlier this year, Managing Director Claire Mahon described the recognition as a tremendous honour for the business, its team and Cumbria's long-standing tradition of craftsmanship. She paid tribute to the company's employees, apprentices and loyal clients across the world whose support has helped make the achievement possible.
Presenting the award on behalf of His Majesty The King, Alexander Scott congratulated the company on its exceptional success, highlighting the prestige of the award and the important role businesses such as Redmayne 1860 play in demonstrating that Cumbria is home to world-class enterprise and innovation.
The presentation celebrates not only the success of a single company but also the strength of Cumbria's business community, where heritage, craftsmanship and innovation continue to create opportunities and recognition far beyond the county's borders.
The Cumbria Lieutenancy extends its warmest congratulations to Claire and Tom Mahon and the entire Redmayne 1860 team on this outstanding achievement and wishes them every success for the future.
