The Vice Lord Lieutenant

The Vice Lord Lieutenant is a senior Deputy Lieutenant appointed by the Lord-Lieutenant to stand in for him/her when absent, sick or otherwise unable to act. The Vice Lord Lieutenant acts with the full authority of the Lord-Lieutenant.

Lord (Richard) Inglewood DL

Lord (Richard) Inglewood was appointed DL in 1993 and Vice Lord Lieutenant in 2012. 

He is a Member of the House of Lords, a barrister and Chartered Surveyor, has an MA from Trinity College, Cambridge, and is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. 

He was Chairman of Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership from 2018 until 2025. He was minister for broadcasting and for tourism when Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department of National Heritage in the late 1990s.  He has also served twice as an MEP, first for Cumbria and Lancashire North and then for North-West England and was a member of the Lake District Special Planning Board 1983 to 1989. 

He chaired the Boards of CN Group, Carr’s plc and Gen2 and is former President of Cumbria Tourist Board. He lives at Hutton-in-the-Forest.
