  The Lord-Lieutenant
Meet the 5th Lord-Lieutenant of Cumbria since the county was created in 1974. Mr Alexander Scott was appointed in April 2023 following the retirement of Mrs Claire Hensman.
  Duties of the Lieutenancy

  The Vice Lord-Lieutenant
The Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Lord Inglewood, is a senior Deputy Lieutenant appointed by the Lord-Lieutenant to stand in for him/her when absent, sick or otherwise unable to act.
  Deputy Lieutenants
Deputy Lieutenants act as the Lord-Lieutenant's "eyes and ears" around Cumbria. They have a wealth of experience with voluntary organisations, the Armed Forces and all other aspects of life in the county.
  Citizenship ceremonies
Citizenship Ceremonies, held in Barrow, Kendal and Carlisle and attended by a Deputy Lieutenant, are the final step in the process of becoming a British Citizen.

High Sheriff of Cumbria
The High Sheriff is a separate ceremonial role supporting the Crown and the Judiciary. The role is particularly active in supporting crime reduction.
Recruitment of magistrates
The Lord-Lieutenant participates in the Lord Chancellor's Advisory Committee for the Appointment of Justices of the Peace in Cumbria and Lancashire.
Cumbria Community Flag
Cumbria now has a Community Flag! The winning design was unveiled at a community celebration in September at Carlisle Cathedral.
