The Cumbria and Lancashire Advisory Committee oversees a recruitment programme to ensure that the two Justice areas have a full complement of magistrates (volunteers who hear cases in courts in their community.)

The Advisory Committee has two roles:

  • to establish interview panels consisting of a balance of magistrates and lay members and ensure that the Advisory Committee itself has an appropriate balance of skilled and diverse members to populate the interview panels
  • to promote and publicise at local level a succession of magistrate recruitment campaigns

Cumbria and Lancashire will, at different times throughout the year, be inviting applications to become magistrates in both the criminal and the family courts.
